In October 2003, Louise and Gordon traveled to Australia
and New Zealand. Our almost four-week stay included Melbourne, Kangaroo
Island (don't miss this unspoiled gem should you travel down under), Alice
Springs, an overnight ride on the Ghan Train, Uluru (the Aboriginal name for Ayers
Rock), Daintree National Rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef, and Sydney. Our New
Zealand trip included the beautiful southern island - Queenstown and
Christchurch. Our travel companions were experienced travelers with diverse
backgrounds. We became
great friends. We had our hair styled by the "Roaring 40" winds; were there
just as the spring flowers and trees were erupting with grand color and
scents; spent a cold evening with the fairy penguins of Kangaroo Island;
tasted wonderful Australian and New Zealand wines; snorkeled at the Great
Barrier Reef; and ballooned over the outback.
The women of the Michigan Mafia,
the world-class Las Vegas shoppers, the triplets'
grandparents, and our southern California neighbors made the trip wonderful,
interesting, and comfortable. Tilly, our tour leader, went out of her way to
open her heart and her country to us - fantastic!
